Philadelphia Distilling, the first Pennsylvania based craft distillery since Prohibition, celebrates ten years of premium spirit production with a new state-of-the-art distillery. Combining old school craftsmanship with evolving modern techniques to create a unique portfolio of premium spirits, the distillery floor features hand-hammered 2500L copper pot stills from the fifth-generation Forsyth family in Scotland, and four open-top wooden fermentation vessels, constructed by the Hall-Woolford Tank Co., an iconic Philadelphia-based family business using the building technique since 1854.
“After a decade of solitary work in our original warehouse turned lab, we’ve put our process on display in our new distillery, where you can watch the spirits being made and sample the results,” says President and Co-Founder, Andrew Auwerda. “We love our new neighborhood, and can’t wait to welcome our growing community of fans and friends with tours and tastings starting February 23, 2017.”
The new distillery is housed within a transformed 15,000-square foot warehouse, formerly the Ajax Metal Company, smelters and founders from the late 1800’s to the mid 1940’s. The heritage manufacturing facility underwent a renovation while maintaining its factory spirit with industrial decor, vaulted ceilings, and full view of the production equipment, as well as measures to reduce the carbon footprint with recirculating water and LED light installation. In addition to the production floor, the historic building houses a tasting room, cocktail bar and lounge, private event space, outdoor patio, and retail store, offering a $3 merchandise credit with every used full sized Philadelphia Distilling bottle return.
February 19th and 20th will be the first time Philadelphia Distilling opens its doors to the public. The craft cocktail bar and lounge will be open and serving its full menu of 16 classic and house cocktails featuring all Philadelphia Distilling spirits. The retail store will also be open for guests to shop for their favorite merchandise or spirits to take home.
