Penn 1681 Rye Vodka

Penn 1681 Vodka pays homage to our home state of Pennsylvania

In 1681, King Charles II granted William Penn about 40,000 square miles of land which became the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Since then Pennsylvania has ranked as a leading agricultural area and has produced surpluses of export. By the mid 18th century, rye was one of the most important crops grown by the numerous farmers of the state.

By all accounts, much of the rye grown in early Pennsylvania was for brewing and distilling. In fact, rye whiskey made in Pennsylvania during this time was so distinctive, it became know as Pennsylvania- or Monongahela-Style Rye Whiskey.

Rye whiskey was often used as currency within the state. For farmers, transporting distilled whiskey was much easier and more economical than transporting grain.

We chose to make a rye-forward vodka to pay homage to the grain’s important role in Pennsylvania’s history. Rye adds a rich, chocolatey character to our otherwise clean and crisp vodka.
